Set in the Mzymta Valley, at elevations from 540 to 2,375 metres, the area offers slopes and routes for every skill level.
The microclimate is mild: snow cover and comfortable skiing temperatures last through winter, while summer temperatures in the valley range from +22 to +26 °C, with cooler conditions at higher elevations. The air is clean and scented with conifers, while the starry sky is particularly striking thanks to low light pollution. Another advantage is the abundance of clear streams and springs: hiking routes often pass places where you can refill your water bottle.
During the colder months, the area becomes one of Russia’s leading ski destinations. Three resorts operate here — Rosa Khutor, Gazprom and Krasnaya Polyana — each with its own ski-pass system. There are more than 170 km of runs, including beginner slopes and freestyle snow parks.

Beyond skiing and snowboarding, popular activities include snowshoeing, ski touring, tubing and snowcat excursions. After a day on the slopes, unwind at a spa, restaurant or bar — evenings in the mountains feel especially cosy.
In summer, the mountain slopes become a hub for hiking, cycling and adventure activities. Top options include:
cable cars — for sweeping views from above;
waterfall parks and eco-trails — for relaxed walks;
cycling routes and enduro riding — for speed enthusiasts;
zip lines and rope parks — for family-friendly thrills;
rafting and canyoning — for adrenaline seekers.
The area also attracts photographers and nature lovers: rhododendrons bloom, dramatic panoramas open up, and rare birds can be spotted. Alpine meadows are especially picturesque in July and August, creating a perfect setting for walks and photo shoots.
Accommodation caters to every preference, from 4- and 5-star spa hotels to guesthouses and apartments. Many properties offer transfers to the lifts, as well as equipment storage and rental.
The area has restaurants, coffee shops, stores, rental outlets and children’s clubs. Workshops and play programmes are often organised for younger guests, making it easier for parents to plan an active day.
From Sochi Airport, you can travel by bus, Lastochka train or taxi in 40–60 minutes. Shuttle buses and walking are convenient ways to get around the area: pedestrian zones are well maintained and distances are short.
Ideas for a day trip:
Olympic Park in Adler — attractions and a waterfront promenade;
the ornithological park — peaceful walks and birdwatching;
waterfalls and viewpoints along the Mzymta River — by car or on a guided tour.
Ethnographic programmes and tastings are also available: honey, cheese and herbal teas offer a great way to discover Caucasian flavours beyond the ski slopes.
December–March is the best time for skiing and snowboarding.
June–September is ideal for trekking and cycling routes.
April–May and October–November are the shoulder seasons: there are fewer visitors and beautiful landscapes, but some services operate on a limited schedule.
Book accommodation in advance to secure better rates and availability. Bring comfortable footwear, a rain jacket and sun protection, as mountain weather changes quickly. For new activities, it is best to hire an instructor: schools are available at all resorts, and lessons will help you master the techniques faster and avoid mistakes.
The region is appealing year-round: enjoy adrenaline on the slopes, try local cuisine and relax at a spa. Its combination of spectacular scenery and varied activities makes it one of Russia’s most popular mountain holiday destinations.
We will show you how many fascinating places there still are in this world.
