Where to Go on a Spring Holiday to Recharge After Winter

For travellers, it does not matter when they set off—during the heat of summer or the depths of winter. The shoulder seasons can be just as enjoyable. A spring holiday is a great way to recharge after winter, discover new places and add to your collection of happy memories. Russia has plenty of fascinating destinations across the country. A spring break can be budget-friendly or luxurious, depending on your preferences and budget. Here are some of the most interesting places to visit from March to May.

Where to go in spring for mountain lovers

The end of winter does not mean the end of ski season. Many resorts remain open until mid-April or early May, giving mountain holidaymakers at least another month and a half to enjoy the slopes. The main advantages of a spring ski break are lower prices and fewer queues thanks to reduced demand.

Krasnaya Polyana

This is a popular ski resort in Sochi. It offers plenty of runs for beginners and experienced skiers, along with well-developed infrastructure. Finding and booking a room in early spring is usually easy, as demand declines. However, do not expect the resort to be deserted. It is one of the country’s most popular ski destinations, so there are always plenty of visitors until the end of the season. Krasnaya Polyana usually welcomes guests until late April or early May. The southern climate does not allow the resort to operate fully into summer, although snow can still be seen on the mountain peaks in May.

Important! If you want to enjoy an international-standard resort while saving money, head to Krasnaya Polyana in the second half of March. Room rates drop significantly at this time, and discounts are available on lift passes and entertainment.

Elbrus Region

An excellent choice for an enjoyable and restorative spring break after a long winter. This ski resort is located in the North Caucasus. The Elbrus Region boasts a long season and is ready to welcome visitors even in mid-May.

A holiday during the shoulder season has many advantages:

  • a range of activities, including snowboarding, skiing and sledding;
  • hiking and beautiful scenery;
  • discovering local culture and visiting authentic towns;
  • the visual pleasure of mountain peaks and the still waters of alpine lakes;
  • visiting protected natural areas.

The resort will appeal to anyone who enjoys discovering new things. Local fairs are often held here, where you can browse and buy unique items made by local craftspeople.

Sheregesh

For a spring holiday, consider this ski resort in the south of Kemerovo Oblast. The resort has well-developed infrastructure. There are 14 runs of varying difficulty, so both beginners and professionals can ski in comfort.

The season usually ends in mid-April—and in an unusual way. On the eve of the resort’s closing, a large-scale party is held. Visitors can enjoy free concerts and take part in a fun traditional flash mob: skiing down the mountain in swimwear.

Where to go to recharge after winter

In spring, many people experience vitamin deficiencies. This can be a difficult period for those with chronic health conditions. To support your wellbeing, get more rest, establish a healthy daily routine and adjust your diet. However, spending one or two weeks at a health resort or holiday retreat can be even more beneficial.

Health resorts on the Black Sea

In early spring, wellness stays are more affordable while offering the same level of service as during peak season. One of the leading health resorts on the Black Sea is Slavutich in Alushta. It has everything needed for rest and recovery. The resort specialises in treating gastrointestinal, cardiovascular and respiratory conditions, as well as musculoskeletal disorders.

Important! There is a varied menu, as well as an on-site herbal tea bar and bakery. A separate meal plan is available for vegetarians.

Sochi in bloom

The resort is popular in both summer and winter, but botany enthusiasts know how beautiful the city becomes in late March and early April. This is when magnolias and cherry blossoms usually begin to bloom. At the very start of spring, visit the Yuzhnye Kultury Park. It is home to many beautiful plants that are already beginning to flower. Exploring the flora is a wonderful way to broaden your horizons and fill your smartphone gallery with stunning photographs.
